MAGSTM V8 Accreditations
MAGSTM is now USDA approved by the Animal Plant and Health Inspection Agency (APHIS) as a new technology for handling regulated garbage in the United States. For more information click here.
MAGSTM is also certified in compliance with IMO resolution MEPC.244(66) – replacing MEPC.76(40) – Standard Specifications of Shipboard Incinerators, and IMO MARPOL Annex VI. Until new regulation is adopted and ratified to properly class Shipboard Gasification Waste to Energy Systems, Terragon will maintain Type Approvals from ABS, USCG, LR, and DNV-GL. These certificates will typically satisfy other classification societies.
In May 2015, the International Maritime Organization approved the Pollution and Prevention Group 3 to begin work on developing a new category, standard, and Type Approval testing plan for Shipboard Gasification Waste to Energy Systems. As of December 2019, there is a standard guideline for Shipboard Thermal Waste Treatment Devices awaiting approval by IMO’s subcommittee on Pollution Prevention and Response. This work demonstrates the impact that MAGSTM has in the maritime industry which will give ship owners and operators a choice to choose cleaner and more energy efficient technology.
Terragon continues its efforts with the Standards Council of Canada to create a new standard domestically and internationally for multi-fuel energy generating appliances. The standard will address a gap in terms of whole system certifications for appliances such as MAGSTM. The interim standard or Other Recognized Document (ORD) has been completed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and validated by Regulatory Authority Advisory Bodies in Canada. The document, entitled “ULC/ORD-C1373 (2020) 1st Edition – Guide for the Investigation of Factory- Built Water Heating Gasification Appliances” was published in March 2020. The system has received USCG and IMO MEPC.107(49) certification and can treat to 5 or 15 ppm discharge as selected by the operator. WETT-O meets the most stringent discharge standards available for shipboard Oily Water Separators.
